If you think you know “Fran,” you’ll barely recognize “Franzilla.” The reps go down but the weight goes up, as does the difficulty on the pulling movements. Both athletes (whose Fran times are just over 3 minutes (Carl) and just over 4 minutes (Kara)) felt confident they’d go through the 21 thrusters and pull-ups unbroken, but they both got caught by surprise as the 15 thrusters and chest-to-bars were harder than they expected. The round of 9 was where strategies went out the window and they both just fought hard to finish strong.
